Cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask alerted its customers of a new phishing bot that attempts to get their seed phrases.
MetaMask, a product-focused company that allows users to access & interact with their Ethereum tools. The company disclosed in a tweet that a new scam that tries to harm users of the platform.
According to the team, the fraud makes an effort to take users to a pretend ”instant support” portal where they are advised to enter information into a Google Docs form.
The organization specified the scam occurs as normal and asks for your recovery passphrase, which is a complete scam & users should be extra careful.
However, MetaMask informed that it does not have a Google Docs-based support system. Also encourages users to alert them about the scam as the MetaMask app has this option on its platform – “Get Help”.
Users Shows Disappointments Through Twitter
After being announced about phishing bots, numerous users have complained that they have been attacked before.
One of the users showed his disappointment on Twitter and raised concerns on how to return his tokens:
”So I assume we cannot retrieve all our tokens right? I assume a lot of people have been robbed yesterday because of that…”
MetaMask is one of the top targets for hackers and scammers. MetaMask has seen real progress in recent days. The developer behind the wallet, ConsenSys, reported that it had hit a record 5 million active monthly users.
The new phishing bot is not the first attempt to scam users out of their crypto. Phishing attacks are a social engineering technique used by scammers to attract users into complete steps that reveal personal information or account details of the user.
For example MetaMask is a “rotten seed phrase attack,” the website of the wallet the user was trying to install. The fake website creates a seed phrase that permits the scammers to control the wallet once it has been installed.
Similarly, the company most often used hardware wallets, Ledger, saw its database leaked, the personal information of many customers.
