- Elon Musk confirmed no deal has been signed between xAI and Telegram for Grok integration.
- Telegram’s Pavel Durov initially announced a 1-year partnership including $300M in cash and equity.
- Durov later clarified that the agreement with xAI is not finalized and remains subject to pending formalities.
Elon Musk has publicly stated that no final agreement has been signed between xAI and Telegram regarding the integration of Grok, xAI’s artificial intelligence product. This clarification was issued after Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced earlier that an agreement had already been made.
Musk, CEO of xAI, countered this claim by posting: “No deal has been signed,” emphasizing that any terms discussed remain incomplete. His statement, issued late Wednesday on X, directly addressed Durov’s earlier post that described a formal partnership. The contradiction triggered immediate scrutiny as the initial announcement had indicated a binding collaboration.
Telegram and xAI’s $300M Grok Deal Remains Unfinalized
According to Durov’s original message, Telegram had agreed to a one-year partnership with xAI. The plan involved integrating Grok into all Telegram apps used by over a billion global users. In his post, Durov stated: “This summer, Telegram users will gain access to the best AI technology on the market,” referring to Grok.
He also noted that Telegram would receive 50% of revenue from xAI subscriptions sold through its platform. In addition, the company would secure $300 million in a combined cash and equity arrangement. These funds would contribute to Telegram’s broader capital raise of $1.5 billion via a bond offering, backed by major financial entities including BlackRock.
Musk Clarifies Deal Status as Talks with Durov Remain Preliminary
Musk’s response introduced a sharp correction to the earlier announcement. His post, simple and unambiguous, stated: “No deal has been signed. The message confirmed that previous terms had been changed and underscored his authority over the process. It also made clear that formal agreements had not been executed. Following Musk’s post, Durov returned to X to acknowledge the correction. “Agreed in principle, but formalities are pending,” he wrote, effectively confirming that discussions are ongoing. The deal remains in a preliminary phase, and no binding documents have been finalized.
Despite the lack of a signed deal, public posts from both executives have revealed several potential terms under discussion. The open conversation between the two CEOs has led to more attention. For now, the status of the collaboration is uncertain pending the completion of certain administrative procedures and the final structure of an agreement has not yet been determined.
